About the Event
Samarpan — A Tribute to Guru-Shishya Parampara
Presented as a part of Ragamala's Lights festival, Samarpan is a celebration of traditional Kathak and its profound relationship with music. Rooted in the Guru–Shishya Parampara, Pooja Ganesh’s presentation brings together compositions and traditions carried forward through the rich lineage, alongside an exploration of live musical interplay. Through rhythm, melody, poetry, expression, padhant, and singing, the program journeys through the many dimensions of Kathak.
The live accompaniment of Ravi Albright and Abhishek Arora creates a dialogue between the dancer and musicians, culminating in the spontaneity of jugalbandi. Woven through the presentation are moments of devotion, rhythm, and musical exploration, creating an offering that honors tradition while celebrating Kathak as a living, evolving art form.
