About the Event

Born in a traditional music family, Manjiri Asanare-Kelkar has inherited the rich tradition of Jaipur Atrauli gharana from Pt. Kanetkar, doyen of the gharana. She received early training from her father, tabla artist Anand Asanare, and Pt. C. T. Mhaiskar of Sangli. Her vocal style is pliant, polished and seasoned, with open Akaar and easy and graceful glides. Manjiri has received many awards and wide acclaim for her performances in multiple venues in India and overseas.

Sanjay Deshpande will accompany the artist on Tabla. He started training under Late Pt. Sabade at Pune Bharat Gayan Samaj. Later he took Taleem (lessons) from the renowned Tabla player Pt. Suresh Talwalkar of Delhi-Farookabad Gharana, in a Guru Shishya Parampara. He also had the privilege of tutelage under world renowned Tabla maestro Ustad Alla Rakha Khan Saheb and Pt.Yogesh Samsi. At present he is training under Pt. Vivek Joshi. Sanjay is recipient of the coveted “Ahmedjaan Thirakwaa Scholarship”. He has accompanied many major artists and performed at Sawai Gandharva Festival and several other venues in India and all over the world. He is presently a Guru at Lalit Kala Kendra, University of Pune and BharatiVidyapeeth Pune.





Dnyaneshwar Sonawane will be the Harmonium accompanist. He took his Iiitial training from renowned Harmonium player Pt. Bapu Kulkarni of Nashik, for nearly eight years, gaining knowledge of basic playing techniques and structures of the Gayaki (Vocal music styles) in Hindustani Raag Sangeet. He has continued under the tutelage of acclaimed Harmonium player Pt.Sudhir Nayak of Mumbai. He is the recipient of “Naad Sadhak Puraskar 2019” and various other awards. He has performed in diverse concert platforms, workshops and commercial recordings, and accompanied renowned musicians through varied genres of Indian music like Khayal, Thumri-Dadra, Ghazal, religious and folk music.
