Date/Time: July 18-22, 2022 | 9am - 12pm PST

What it is:

Ragamala's Annual 'Raga Camp' is a week-long half-day summer camp for young beginners and explorers of Hindustani (North Indian Classical) music, ages 6-12 years. It seeks to introduce kids to a Beginner's curriculum, basics of Raag and Taal, and simple compositions (bandish). There will also be demonstrations of various instruments, such as the Sitar, Sarod, Bansuri, Harmonium etc. The camp will conclude with student performances, a celebration, and participation certificates.

How it works:

Students will learn in groups of 6-8 under an experienced teacher in the Greater Seattle area. Each day, there will be 2 sessions of 50 min each with a 10 min snack/restroom break in between, followed by a 30 min demo of an instrument from a visiting teacher/musician. Students will go home with MP3 recordings and notation with which to practice the day's lesson. Expect 15-30 min homework practice every day. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and practice together in class as well. Assistant teachers are happy to work one-on-one with your student as necessary.
