About the Event
With a career spanning over 45 years, Pt. Debashish Bhattacharya has played Hindustani Slide Guitar extensively around the globe. His many awards and accolades include the President of India Gold Medal in 1994 and a Grammy nomination among many others. He has performed/collaborated live and on record with musical giants such as Pt. Ravi Shankar Ustad Zakir Hussain, John McLaughlin, Jerry Douglas, and Derek Trucks.
He will be accompanied on Slide Guitar by his son Suryadipta Bhattacharya, who developed his impressive musicianship under his father’s tutelage. Together, their interpretations of Indian classical music as well as their own contemporary compositions exhibit an intuitive sense of communication of ideas and emotion that comes naturally between family members.
