About the Artists
Rudrakshya, founded by Guru
Bichitrananda Swain, is dedicated to the enhancement of the
Odissi dance style, with special emphasis on developing new and
innovative choreography.

Swain, Bichitrananda An
exceptional performer, instructor and choreographer, Guru
Sri Swain has emerged as one of the leading gurus of this
ancient art. A product of the Orissa Dance Academy, he was
trained in the Gotipua tradition of Odissi under the maestro
Guru Gangadhar Pradhan. He has also received training at the
Odissi Research Center under renowned Gurus like Guru
Kelucharan Mohapatra, Guru Pankaj Charan Das and Guru Ramani
Ranjan Jena. He has served as a visiting instructor at
Nrityagram, Bangalore and the Principal and Chief Instructor
at Orissa Dance Academy. Currently he is the
Founder-Director of Rudrakshya, Bhubaneswar. He has
performed all over the world in countries like Canada and
the
United Kingdom and has toured USA thrice with his troupe.
Under his guidance, Rudrakshya has emerged as a leading
institute for Odissi in India |

Nayak, Yudhistir Sri
Yudhisthir Nayak was initiated in the Gotipua tradition at
the age of seven. He began his training in Odissi dance at
the age of fifteen under the tutelage of Guru Bichitrananda
Swain with the direct supervision of Guru Sri Gangadhar
Pradhan. He has been awarded the Senior National Scholarship
for young talents by the Ministry of Human Resource
development in India and has assisted in a number of new
choreographies by his Guru. He has also trained in Odissi
singing, Odissi mardal (percussion) and Chhau Dance. He has
performed in India, Canada and the US and was a
teacher-in-residence at the Center for World Music in San
Diego, CA from 2005 through 2007.

Pradhan, Pabitra Kumar
Born in the village of Nilakanthapur, Orissa, Pabitra was
initiated as a gotipua dancer under the able guidance of
the Late Guru Mahadev Rout. Later he began training in Odissi at
Nrityagram, Bangalore established by late Protima Gauri Bedi
and received further training at Orissa Dance Academy under
Guru Bichitrananda Swain with the direct supervision of Guru
Gangadhar Pradhan. He is the recipient of the Senior
National Scholarship from the Govt. of India and has performed widely
over the major cities and dance festivals of India such as
The
Friendship Art Festival in Pyongyang, North
Korea; The 33rd OSA Convention, 2002 in
the USA; The 2nd International Odissi Festival, 2003, USA and in
several cities of USA in 2002, 2003, 2005 and 2006. He
performed in Glasgow Convention-UK, Independence Day of
Bangladesh-Edinburgh and in different cities of the UK such
as
Birmingham, Manchester and Cardiff. |

Pradhan, Lingaraj
Lingaraj started his training at the age of 15 at the Orissa
Dance Academy under Guru Bichitrananda Swain with the direct
supervision of Guru Gangadhar Pradhan. Currently one
of the upcoming artists of Rudrakshya, he is being further
refined under Guru Sri Swain. He has completed his Masters
in Music in Odissi Dance from Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya
and is also the recipient of a National Scholarship from the
Govt. of India. He has performed in almost all the major
cities and dance festivals of India. He has also the
privilege of performing at OSA Convention, 2002 in USA, 2nd
International Odissi Festival, 2003, USA and in several
cities of USA in 2002 and 2003. He has worked as visiting
faculty at Chitralekha Dance Company, Toronto, Canada. |

Balabantray, Amulya Kumar
Amulya Balabantaray
started his initial training as a gotipua dancer under the
able guidance of Bijay Kumar Sahoo. He was carefully
nurtured under the direct supervision of Guru Gangadhar
Pradhan at Orissa Dance Academy. Currently he is one of the
upcoming artistes of Rudrakshya, being trained under the
able guidance of Guru Bichitrananda Swain. He is the
recipient of Senior National Scholarship from the Govt. of
India Amulya has performed at many major dance festivals of
India like Konark Dance Festival, Odissi Festival,
Mamallapuram Festival, Natyanjali Festival, Odissi Sandhya,
Megha Utsav, Mukteswar Dance Festival, etc. He also had the
privilege of performing at the 2nd International Odissi
Festival, 2003, USA. He has also performed at the major
cities of USA in 2003. |

Dash, Gouri Shanker
Gourishankar started the journey of dance from a very tender
age under the guidance of Guru Shree Padma Charan Dehury. He
was nurtured carefully by Guru Subash Charan Swain and
further his talent was refined by the renowed Guru
Kelucharan Mohapatra. He was awarded the esteemed National
Scholarship for Odissi Dance by Govt. of India. He continued
the path under Guru Shree Naba Kishore Mishra. This inborn
talent was ornamented by the able tutelage of Guru Shree
Bichitrananda Swain and the journey continues. He has
participated in numerous states, national and international
level performances and has been highly appreciated for his
magical spell of dance. |

Das, Mamata Groomed to be
a dancer at a tender age of 8 at Orissa Dance Academy, under
the guidance of Guru Gangadhar Pradhan and Guru Kanduri
Charan Behera, Mamata also had the privilege of receiving
training from the great maestro Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra at
Srjan. She has received the Senior National Scholarship from
the Govt. of India. Currently working as an instructor in
Odissi dance at YMCA, Bhubaneswar, she has also participated
for Song and Drama Division, Ministry of Information and
Broadcasting, Govt. of India. She has participated in major
dance festivals like Konark Dance Festival, Odissi
Nrityotsava, Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, Puri Beach
Festival, Kal-ke-kalakar Sammelan, Mumbai, Kharavela Mahotsava, etc. Her performances abroad include shows at
Italy, under Srjan and USA, arranged by YMCA. |

Dutta, Sanjukta A
promising dancer of her generation, Sanjukta has proved her
talents from her childhood. She started her initial training
at the age of 9 under the discerning guidance of Guru
Yudhisthir Nayak. She is under the direct supervision of
Guru Gangadhar Pradhan, at Orissa Dance Academy. Currently
pursuing her Masters in Music at Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya,
Bhubaneswar, she has also been awarded the Senior National
Scholarship from Govt. of India. She has travelled all over
India and participated in major festivals like National
Festival of New Choreographies, New Delhi, Kalidas Samaroh,
Ujjain, Konark Dance Festival, Puri Beach festival, etc. She
has performed solo at Sangeet Natak Akademi, Bhubaneswar and
has won accolades in various competitions. |

Panda, Arupa Gayatri
Arupa was initiated into dance at the tender age of three by
Guru Sri Pusparanjan Magaraj, Director of Nrutyanjali. She
received further training from Smt. Sarita Mishra in the
late Guru Sri Deba Prasad Das's style of Odissi. She has
been training under her current Guru, Smt. Madhusmita
Mohanty under the direct supervision and guidance of Guru
Sri Gangadhar Pradhan, Founder-Director of the Orissa Dance
Academy, as well as renowned dancer Smt. Aruna Mohanty.Arupa
has performed widely for prestigious festivals throughout
India to include The Konark Dance and Music Festival, Utkal
Divas, Puri Beach Festival. She also toured to the States
with Nrityagram, the prestigious dance institute founded by
the late Pratima Gauri Bedi, in 2005. She has earned many
accolades and awards for her dance to include the Junior
National Scholarship, the Silpeeshree Award, and the
Padmashree Sanjukta Panigrahi Scholarship. |

Padhi, Moushumi Madhuchandra
Moushumi Madhuchhanda Padhi started the dancing career at
the age of three. She was initiated into dance under the
guidance of Guru Anita Singhdeo. Her dance was further
nurtured by Guru Naba Kishore Mishra and Guru Sushant Kumar
Dash. At present her dance is being refined and polished
under the tutelage and discerning guidance of the renowned
master Guru Bichitrananda Swain. She has performed at many
major festivals like Konark Festival, Puri Beach Festival,
Shreekshetra Utsav, Dhauli Festival, Rajgiri Festival,
Kharavel Festival etc. She also got the privilege of
performing at the International Odissi Festival, Bhubaneswar.
Moushumi has a compelling and arresting stage presence with
rare combination of intensity and spontaneity. |

Panda, Binod Bihari Binod
Bihari Panda
was trained from his childhood under his father in Odissi
Music. Later he joined Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya and was
further refined under the guidance of Guru Gopal Chandra
Panda, Guru Bhikari Bal and Guru Ramahari Das. He then
joined Odissi Research Centre for higher studies under Guru
Deepak Kumar Basu. He has received the Senior National
Scholarship from Govt. of India and is also a graded artist
of AIR. He has worked with major Gurus like Guru Kelucharan
Mohapatra, Guru Pankaj Charan Das, Guru gangadhar Pradhan,
etc. He is also a solo performer and music
composer. He has travelled widely both inside India and
abroad. |

Barik, Bijaya Kumar Guru
Sri Barik was groomed to play Mardal (Odissi drum) by noted
Gotipua Gurus like Guru Rajiv Dalai and Guru Birabara Sahoo.
Later he joined Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya and completed
Masters in Music in mardal. Here he further refined his
technique under the guidance of the legendary Guru Banamali
Maharana and Guru Dhaneswar Swain. Guru Gangadhar Pradhan
helped him master the art of playing during Odissi dance
recitals. He has travelled widely and performed with almost
all the gurus and senior Odissi dancers. He has done major
shows in many countries abroad. He has received Senior
National Scholarship from the Govt. of India. He has also
played and performed in Miranair’s movie Kamasutra.
Presently he is working as the chief instructor of Mardal at
the Orissa Dance Academy. |

Mishra, Jyotindra Prasad
Jyotindra Prasad Mishra started his initial training in
instrument of Sitar under the guidance of great Sitar gurus.
He obtained his masters degree in Sitar with gold medal from
Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh. He is a regular broadcaster
in radio and TV since 1990. He has travelled widely all
over the world as a solo performer and as an accompanist in
Odissi dance recitals. |

Mishra, Jabahar Jabahar
Mishra started his training in flute from Utkal Sangeet
Mahavidyalaya, Bhubaneswar and received advanced training
from Prof. Mohini Mohan Pattnayak and Sri Ashok Banerjee. He
completed his Masters in Music in flute from the university.
A recipient of a Senior Scholarship from the Govt. of India,
he also achieved 1st position in the National Classical Music
Competition held by All India Radio and was awarded the gold
medal and recognised as a graded artist of AIR and Doordarshan.
He has performed both solo and as an accompanist with many
great dancers and singers and has participated in many
classical concerts inside and outside Orissa. His
performances abroad include shows in the USA and North Korea. |
