About the Artists

Maharajapuram S. Ramachandran,
the renowned Carnatic vocal musician is heir to a great musical
tradition. He had the unique privilege of being tutored by two
musical giants, his grandfather, Maharajapuram Vishwanatha Iyer
and his father, Sri. Santhanam, and is 7th in the direct sishya
parampara of Saint Thyagaraja. With such a strong foundation, it
is not difficult for Ramachandran to earn a name for himself and
he has established himself as the authentic heir of the
Maharajapuram style. His adherence to excellence and tradition
has earned him many awards from premier institutions like The
Music Academy, Indian Fine Arts, Krishna Gana Sabha etc. To his
credit he has also received prestigious titles such as Arsha
Kala Bhushanam from Pujya Swamiji, Sangeetha Choodamani from
Krishna Gana Sabha(Chennai), Sangeetha Ganamani from the Kanchi
Kamakoti Peetam, etc to name a few. Ramachandran is grade A
artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan and he was a member of
the faculty of Fine Arts, Annamalai University. |

Born in
the illustrious family of the great Appaya Dikshitar at
mannargudi, Easwaran began his instruction in mridangam
at the age of eight under Kuniseri Sri U Krishnamani Iyer. He
has been giving performances for over 50 years and has toured
the world as an accompanist with stalwarts of Carnatic Music
like Smt. M.S. Subbulakshmi and other top ranking artists of
India. He has won several prestigious awards and titles, which
include the “Kalaimaamani” title in 2003 by the Tamil
Nadu Government, and the ‘Laya Kalaadhara Saamraat’ title by the
Indian Classical Music Federation. The Sri Thyaga Brahma Gana
Sabha has honored him in 1995 for his 37 years of service in the
music field. He won the “Palghat Mani Iyer” award in 2007. He
was invited to teach mridangam at the San Francisco State
University in 1979 and the Tamil Nadu Iyal Isai Kalluri in
2002-2003. |

B.U.Ganesh Prasad, a
talented disciple of the violin maestro V.V.Subramaniam caught
the imagination of music lovers at a tender age with his
flawless bowing and pure tonal quality of his violin. An
accomplished vocalist himself, he is able to vocalize his violin
style with fluency .He combines his intuitive grasp of ragas
with strict adherence to the tenets of the classical tradition
that brings an individual flair to his renditions. Ganesh is
among the most sought after violinists in India and his talent
has taken him world over for performances both as an
accompanying and solo artiste. Music critiques often marvel at
his ability to produce deep sounds and aesthetic values he
cherishes most. Ganesh Prasad has won many awards & accolades
from prestigious music organizations including 'The best
violinist of the season' from the Music Academy of Madras .He is
a recipient of national scholarship for young artists and a
National award winner of All India Radio. |
