About the Artists

Pandita Shruti Sadolikar Katkar is a leading exponent of the Jaipur Atrauli gharana.  Shruti is renowned for lighter varieties like Thumri, Dadra, Tappa, Bhajan, Haveli Sangeet and Marathi Natyasangeet.

Shruti is a very popular 'A' Grade artist in both Akashvani and Doordarshan.  She is widely recognized and one of the most sought after vocalists in the concert arena today.  Her achievements include many scholarships and innumerable awards including the 'Shanmukha Sangeet Shiromoni', prestigious Kesarbai Kerkar Fellowship, the Homi Bhabha Fellowship of the NCPA, Bhaskarbuwa Bakhle prize, and many others.

Shruti is currently a visiting guru at the prestigious ITC Sangeet Research Academy in Kolkata and also a professor of music at SNDT College, Mumbai.  Shruti is also associated as a faculty of the Music department of Mumbai University and many scholars have completed their PhDs in music under her guidance.

Shruti has performed widely in India and abroad, and has innumerable CDs and cassettes to her credit.  She has also recorded educational CDs, she has sung some 20 ragas in the great reference work "Gayaki Raga and Tala" and the "The Raga Guide".  Shruti's Marathi musical play, Sangeet Tulsidas, won five awards.  She has also lent her voice in the famous Bollywood movie, "Paheli", directed by Amol Palekar.

   

Pandit Anant Kunte is the disciple of Ustad Amir Baksh Khan.  He was on the staff of All India Radio for 32 years.  Pandit Kunte is one of the few living maestros of Sarangi in India today.  He has accompanied Shruti-ji on hundreds of concerts all over the world and has earned reputation for his mastery of Jaipur's complex gayaki.  Pandit Kunte has accompanied a number of top vocalists and has also played with equally well-known Tabla Players during their Solo Performances and also accompanied Famous Dancers.

 

Shri Mangesh Mulye is a disciple of Ustad Mohammad Ahmed Khansaheb of Delhi Gharana.  Shri Mulye has stayed with Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki for a long period of time and practiced under his guidance for vocal support on tabla.  Mangesh Mulye has had the opportunity to give accompaniment to various artists like Bhimsen Joshi, Jitendra Abhisheki, Vasantrao Deshpande, Prabhakar Karekar, Raja Kale, Devki Pandit, Shounak Abhisheki and many others.  He has also performed in all major sammelans and conferences all over India including Savai Gandharva Sangeet Mahotsav, Pune, Vishnu Digambar Paluskar Smruti Samaroha, Delhi, Tansen Sangeet Samaroha, Gwalior, Surashri Kesarbai Kerkar Smruti Samaroha, Goa, Marathi Natya Sammelan Mumbai, Calcutta and Delhi Doordarshan, All India Radio (Mumbai, Goa and Baroda).  Mangesh has received Best Accompanist Award-2003 for Gandharava Mahavidyalaya Pune.  Mangesh has extensively toured all parts of the world and is a much sought after tabla accompanist of global repute today.  Mulye is undoubtedly Shruti-ji's most favorite tabla accompanist today.
